Ian McHarg served with British Armed Forces and the UK Ministry of Defence from 1984 to 2000. He completed the All Arms Commando Course earning the coveted Green Beret, and is a recipient of the Commando Medal.
During his service he was employed as an army commando, combat engineer, physical training instructor, and was a member of a Royal Engineers counter-terrorism search team, with operational experience in Northern Ireland, and overseas service in the Falklands, Canada, and Germany.
After leaving the military, Ian spent twenty-five years as a project management professional in high-reliability sectors including nuclear, chemical, and oil & gas in the UK, Australia, Europe and the Middle East.
In addition to writing, Ian delivers illustrated talks, presentations and podcasts. His work is aimed at both serious students of military history and a wider audience interested in commando and special forces during the Second World War.
Ian holds a Master of Science degree from London South Bank University and spends his time between the UK and the UAE, where he lives with his wife Donna and German Shepherd dog Tala.
